The Joan Whiting Rest Home is a small rest home, on the outskirts of Collingwood, licensed for 17 fulltime beds. A registered nurse is always either on the premises or on call. Most of our caregivers have either completed the National Certificate in the Care of the Elderly or are working towards it.

All caregivers have a workplace first aid certificate and regular education sessions are held at the rest home. Staff also travel to Nelson for specialist training.

The Joan Whiting Rest Home is officially licensed and regularly inspected by an independent auditor appointed by the Ministry of Health.

In the most recent report the Ministry of Health auditor said our rest home "Attained the level of excellent for robust systems and continuous quality improvement".

We are proud of that achievement but we are conscious that constant endeavour is needed by any organization to keep it operating at the highest levels.
