We think Stu's comments on the front page of our web site pretty much sum up The Joan Whiting Rest Home. But here's a more formal overview with links to other pages for specific information.
We strive for a family atmosphere with stimulating activities for our 17 residents. The team of caregivers is headed by a Registered Nurse Manager and, as you would expect, we are fully accredited by the Ministry of Health and supported by the Nelson-Marlborough District Health Board. In a recent official audit, the Joan Whiting Rest Home was rated "excellent".
We offer long-term residential care together with short-term care and respite care. An individual Personal Care Plan is drawn up - and updated regularly - in consultation with each new resident and family members.
We have a close working relationship with our four local doctors. A big bonus is that the Collingwood branch of the Golden Bay Medical Centre is located right on our property.
The Joan Whiting Rest Home is closely connected to the local community and we encourage outings and involvement in community events whenever possible. We employ an Activities Co-ordinator to plan and develop stimulating activities programmes and residents are encouraged to participate in planning these programmes.
We take pride in our spacious grounds and grow some of our food on-site. Our residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture and possessions to personalise their private living room.
The Joan Whiting Rest Home is well-regarded in our community and we are grateful for continued support, whether it's from fundraising groups working together, or local fishermen who drop off fresh fish for the kitchen.
Residents may be funded by government subsidy or pay their own fees. We always welcome visitors and the opportunity to sit down with prospective residents and family members and discuss individual needs. Please feel free to call our Registered Nurse Manager Jan Dahl (03) 524 8141 or email us at
